Photoresponsive Adhesives Based on Arylazoisoxazoles‐Containing Polymers

Abstract Adhesives exist in many forms and are essential the daily life, industrial processes, healthcare, calling for continuous improvements terms of application fields, strength, biocompatibility, recyclability, reversibility. Regarding last two points, embedding photoresponsive molecules into adhesive allows use light to attach or detach reversibly different surfaces. Photoresponsive adhesives can be removed without high temperature solvents, which is ideal delicate environments. To date, azobenzenes most explored chromophore prepare smart formulations. Here, synthesis polymer containing arylazoisoxazoles (AIZs) — azobenzene analogs a heterocycle their as described. Mechanical tests demonstrate an enhancement adhesion strength from 0.39 2.79 MPa, passing low molecular weight monomer selected AIZs acrylate polymer. Irradiation with UV induces formation cis isomer consequent drop more than 70% strength. The compounds result possible candidates on basis increased load that held, together possibility obtain joints either stable detachable under irradiation.
